| Tree Planting
Little Green Space has planted trees at a number of sites in the Peak District area. A range of native trees has been planted at Hackney Leys, alongside a new orchard containing apple, pear, plum and damson trees. Tree planting has taken place at several schools. In December 2008, we worked with staff, parents and children at Wessington Primary School, planting a native tree for every child in the Reception class. The children will look after their trees during their time at the school. In March 2009, we donated and planted three fruit trees at Matlock Bath Holy Trinity School, and three fruit trees at Matlock All Saints Infants School. We have supported a Transition Matlock project led by Matlock Town Councillor Martin Burfoot, in which a new wood is being created above Starkholmes, near Riber Castle, on land owned by Willersley Castle Hotel. We attended several planting sessions and have donated 57 trees to the project so far. In 2009, over 1500 self-set ash saplings were recovered from the garden at Matlock All Saints Infants School, during work to create a vegetable garden. Some of these trees were replanted at sites in Hackney; another 100 were replanted on land at Kniveton; and almost 1400 were replanted at Matlock's Cavendish Playing Fields by a team of volunteers from Transition Matlock. |
