TREE
PLANTING – WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT
Matlock-based environmental group
Little Green Space is joining a bid to set a new Guinness world record for
planting the most trees in one hour in multiple locations on
Saturday December 5th 2009
,
from
11am
to
12 noon
.
Little Green Space is backing the
BBC
Breathing Spaces Tree O’Clock event by planting native broadleaved trees
at a site in Hackney as part of its ‘Save the North Pole’ Christmas
campaign on climate change.
“Christmas is an important time to act on climate change. Father
Christmas’s North Pole home is under serious threat from global warming
and Arctic animals such as the polar bear could face extinction,” said
Richard Bunting of Little Green Space.
“This December, with the
world’s governments meeting at the UN Climate Change Conference in
Copenhagen
, is especially important. Both a strong
international agreement and local action are urgently needed.”
The Save the North Pole campaign is supported by Father Christmas, wearing
his traditional green robes. The special website www.savethenorthpole.org.uk
includes facts and figures, fun for kids and tips for enjoying a
carbon-conscious Christmas.
