Ocean Bottle GO*   £38

Ocean Bottle is a reusable water bottle that benefits both the environment and people. Made from recycled stainless steel, it's designed to last a lifetime. It has vacuum insulation to keep drinks hot or cold, and innovative interchangeable lids – so you can choose between a sports-style flip lid with removable straw, or a standard lid. You can also add a Brew Lid* – this converts your water bottle into a leak-proof, easy-to-drink-from coffee flask. But what's remarkable about Ocean Bottle is that every bottle purchased pays for 1,000 ocean-bound bottles to be collected before they reach the sea. So not only are you preventing your own single-use plastic from polluting the seas, but you're helping to prevent other waste causing harm to marine environments too. Money is paid to local collectors in coastal communities such as Brazil, Ghana, India and Indonesia – 372 communities are benefitting from this waste-management programme, and are earning money to access healthcare and education. A staggering 12 million kilos of ocean-bound plastic has already been collected and kept out of the sea. A highly recommended gift for anyone who cares about the environment.

The Natural Gift Company Escape Gift Set*   £32

The Natural Gift Company gift sets can be found on Green Tulip's website* – a great place to start when searching for ethical gifts. The Escape Set is a carefully selected collection of lovely things – we loved the sea theme that links the gifts. Included in this set is a simple but beautiful glazed stoneware mug from Aura Que – its special tapered shape, with a wider base, is designed to keep drinks hotter for longer. A bamboo teaspoon, made with panda-friendly organic bamboo from sustainably managed plantations, complements the mug nicely. There's a sustainable plant wax candle with a fresh ocean-inspired fragrance, and a 100% natural, vegan soap scented with blue cedar and pine. A delicious Coco Pzazz zesty orange dark chocolate bar, featuring beautiful seascape artwork by Chris Neale, completes the set. The Natural Gift Company, based in rural Wiltshire, sources ethical, natural items and transforms them into beautifully curated collections that make wonderful gifts. All the gifts are created by small, eco-friendly British businesses and craftspeople. The sets are attractively presented in plastic-free, recyclable or compostable packaging.

Hatton Handmade Soaps   £4.50

A delightful range of handmade soaps, with lots of fragrances to choose from. We were sent two to try, and on opening the envelope were greeted with a gorgeous, uplifting scent. Orange and Poppy Seed is a bar for hands and body, infused with gently exfoliating poppy seeds. It has a rich, citrusy fragrance, thanks to the sweet orange essential oil, enhanced with earthy patchouli. The blend of base oils includes coconut, sweet almond and shea butter, to create a moisturising soap that produces a luxurious lather. We also tried the Rosemary and Tea Tree shampoo bar. This can be used on face, hands and body too, so is ideal for travelling. Made with natural ingredients – including scalp-friendly base oils – it lathers well, leaving hair clean and soft. All Hatton Handmade soaps are hand cut and hand stamped, giving each bar a pleasing, unique appearance, and they are vegan-friendly. And the plastic-free packaging is as minimal as possible – the bars are wrapped simply in tissue paper, and delivered in a recyclable Jiffy bag.
